The author is a medical doctor and has a degree in literature. Readers are lucky to pick up this book and find a story backed by 3 years of research. Ethical dilemmas will make you wonder, what would I do, what course of action is right?

I enjoyed the first 2/3 of the book, but the last 1/3 was extremely disappointing. It was as if the author had a relationship go bad while writing the book, and then changed course with the book and wrote her own pain into the book.

Northwest setting (Seattle and Olympic peninsula); medicine, ethics -- a great combination. For fans of Jodi Picoult's earlier books (this is more understated than some of Picoult's latest titles).
