The disappearance forty years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden, gnaws at her octogenarian uncle, Henrik Vanger. He is determined to know the truth about what he believes was her murder. He hires crusading journalist Mikael Blomkvist, recently at the wrong end of a libel case, to get to the bottom of Harriet's disappearance. Lisbeth Salander, a twenty-four-year-old, pierced, tattooed genius hacker, possessed of the hard-earned wisdom of someone twice her age--and a terrifying capacity for ruthlessness--assists Blomkvist with the investigation. This unlikely team discovers a vein of nearly unfathomable iniquity running through the Vanger family, an astonishing corruption at the highest echelon of Swedish industrialism--and a surprising connection between themselves.--From publisher description.

This was a good read. Slow at first but once into the story, it catches you and you want to find out what happens next. Trilogy of books that you have to read them all to close the story.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is one of the most intriguing books I've ever read. While it did take me a couple tries to get into it, once I did, I couldn't put it down. There is a lot of exposition, but soon you'll be sucked into the world of this mysterious family and be captivated by the fiesty Lisbeth Salander. I cannot speak highly enough about this book. If you like a good mystery, you'll thoroughly enjoy the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

This book was okay, but I prefer Henning Mankell's writing (if you're looking for Scandinavian crime novels). Larsson was a bit didactic at times, and relied heavily on long expository passages to build the story (not unlike Dan Brown).

Fascinating characters, a non-American locale and a plot with interesting twists and turns. A fun read.
