Add a CommentGodd main character development, the antagonists and their actions are too comically cliche in some instances. With more depth, the book may not have been so popular, but could have given more depth of insight into the prevailing attitudes, conversations and activities of daily living in the mid-20th century South.
I felt the readers were well selected for characters set in the south (Mississippi). Loved the audio book made me laugh a little in the last few chapters(Minny & Abelen), you could feel the tension the characters where feeling in waiting for the reaction to the book. I did pick up the paper back book to ready the last notes by the author. I wish they had read them on the audible version. Just adds a little more insight to the author and the subject. The subject was not surprising, and a pleasant surprise that the ending was very subtle and left you wanting more. Next is the movie it should be good.
The readers are somewhat monotonous and found myself dozing off while listening.
I got the audio book because the book was awful and i wanted to understand what all the hype was about. While the audio book is well done and the story is fair and needs to be told, I still found myself bored and tired of the constant narration, talk, talk, talk. No description or surroundings, characters and it was very difficult to establish one character from the other. The Help needs some editing help. I wouldn't have published this book without it.
The readers added a lot to this audio version.
I listened to this cd and was surprised to hear all 3 main characters had their own voice. This cd was done with 3 people doing the story of Abelen, Skeeter and Minny. The story was fantastic and had seen the movie afterwards with much enjoyment.
would love to for it to go on forever.read it every afternoon. good dessert book because it is such a treat!
Can't believe I was not more aware of what was happening in that time period. I lived a sheltered life in the North. Very eye opening book with engaging characters. A must read.
One of the best books I've read.
Fantastic narration! Really added to Southern tone of the book. Great story.
