In this lively narrative, physician and moral philosopher Carl Elliott traces for the first time the evolutionary path of the new direction in health care, revealing the dangerous underbelly of the beast that has emerged--a beast that sacrifices old-style doctoring to fit the values of consumer capitalism.

Add a CommentAccording to Professor Carl Elliot, something is rotten in the state of medicine, and that rot comes from the pharmaceutical industry. “White Coat, Black Hat” is one of the best works yet written on the corruption of medicine by big business. It is also very funny, humane and beautifully written. With an abundance of anecdotes and a plethora of evidence, the author proves beyond a doubt that industry corruption, systemic failures, and influenced medical personnel are rampant in today’s medical industry. Sad and disturbing but good to know. A must read for all who work in the medical field.
