Add a CommentIt seems lighter than the others in this series, but fear not, its sequel is not light at all. This is, in part, a send-up of Hollywood movie making. But that's not all it is. There really is a plot of evil moving under the surface, but it's easy to miss and hard to keep track of. Well, if you wanted something easy to read you'd not be reading books by Laurie R. King, would you? Lots of characters, and some of them don't matter much as individuals. The tricky part is, of course, to keep track of the right ones. I failed to do that the first time through, so I had to go back and read part of it over. THEN it made so much more sense! To the reviewers who missed Holmes & Mary working together, what book did you read, exactly? They ARE both in it, and they ARE working together!
Fun read, but I miss the previous setup of Russell and Holmes working together.
Not the best in this series. Somewhat confusing and at the same time tedious!
Too many characters. I couldn't get interested.
I have enjoyed all the previous books in this series, but this one is BORING. Everlasting conversation and arguments, and no action as far as I read before I gave up on it.
didn't like this recent Russell book compared to the previous ones. can't exactly say what I disliked about it, really; just that it was a bit lacking in certain areas.
I think the topic and the setting weren't right for Mary Russell - very contrived (perhaps like most films). Pity as she's my top pic for women 'detectives'. On the other hand, I did learn a few old film facts.
