Wonderful read about self-discovery and change. Identities are challenged with new experiences and perspectives. Being open to these other possibilities brings about some incredible opportunities.

Considering this was a debut novel, I felt it was exceptionally well written. In addition the ending was fantastic. I really enjoyed the development of the all the characters and I thought the book moved along well.

Who would think a novel about a champion baseball player would resonate outside the U.S. This one, a surprise bestseller, has a smallish cast of characters led by a young champion shortstop at a small liberal arts college in Wisconsin. You don’t even have to know much about baseball to enjoy it. Best reads of 2012: Philip Tew, Selection and Access Librarian, shares his top novels of 2012.

Great book. Not as much about baseball as the title implies. It's more about life at a small college in a small Midwestern town. If you attended a similar school, as I did (as well as being a shortstop at said school), you will easily relate to the characters and situations. You will say to yourself as you read, "Yep, I knew that guy." Very enjoyable.

About halfway through I realized I was enjoying it in the same way as "Straight Man" by Russo.

clever, readable prose, but 2 dimensional characters + contrived dialogue and situations = what's all the fuss about?

I know nothing about baseball, other than the poem 'Casey at the Bat', but I loved this book anyways. Just what a summer-read novel should be...excellent characters, engaging plot, angstful relationships.

A few too many cliches - but an enjoyable beach read.

A little pruning would've helped but an addictive read.
