A beautiful, perfect little novel for book nerds. Warning: you might have an enormous cry when it’s done (I did).

Sweet story of a widowed bookseller who finds a toddler in his bookstore with a note attached to raise the child in a literary environment. Incidentally, his heirloom book turns up missing at the same time. Incidentally, he meets a publisher's rep who eventually steal his heart. This is a quick, summer read with a sad ending, but enjoyable nonetheless.

I thought this was a charming and heartwarming story, and found the references to all the books fun. However, I was very disappointed in how many times the F-word was used throughout the story. I also didn't appreciate reading about the characters having sex. These two items spoiled the story for me. For those who have similar views, I thought I would let you know before you get hooked in the storyline.

This is a wonderful tale for people who appreciate bookstores, small villages, and humanity. The story is unique and difficult to put down!

Such a great book! I won't go into plot or character details, just suffice it to know this is the kind of book you can't put down and when you get to the end sometimes you just start at the very beginning once more because of your reluctance to leave these people. The same as when you're with terrific friends and the night goes on and you know it's time to leave and let the dogs out or pay the sitter, but you just hate to have the conversation stop. It's like that.

All the comments below are mine also. This was a most satisfying book to read. I loved the characters and the way Ms. Zevin writes. I've already recommended this book to several book lovers I know.

The first way Maya approaches a book is to smell it. She strips the book of its jacket, then holds it up to her face and wraps the boards around her ears.

Her [Amelia's] talents also include multitasking, selecting the right wine at dinner (and the coordinating skill, tending friends who've had too much to drink), houseplants, strays, and other lost causes."

“Infinite Jest is an endurance contest. You manage to get through it and you have no choice but to say you like it. Otherwise, you have to deal with the fact that you just wasted weeks of your life,” A.J. had countered.
