Excellent perspective on time. Colorful, yet the layout with the black outer pages always visible lends an unfortunate sense of darkness in the artwork overall. Ages 5-8

I loved the story overall - the images, the dad's ingenuity, and the neighborhood cooperation...but why didn't they just climb to the top of the windmill? It even appears to have a ladder. One has to wonder if the illustrator wanted children to observe this with a sense of humor or curiosity.

Sophisticated and intriguing fantasy where the characters Life & Death play a game deciding the fate of a girl named Clara. Good storytelling with elements of both hope and despair. Overall I really loved this book but I wonder if some of the discussions between Life & Death might be a bit hard for children to understand. B&W illustrations and the author's notes add dimension to the story. Heartbreaking but inspiring story about "a doctor, a dog, and the discovery of insulin" in graphic format. Wonderfully done with a modest amount of text and poignant images. If you love dogs (or animals of all kinds) it is difficult to read at times although it tells an important story. Wonderfully illustrated coffee-table size book of animals. A limited amount of text in under 100 pages make this accessible for children ages 5+, especially with the oversized detailed drawings. Adults will find it fascinating as well.
