This is an engrossing character study of several veterans of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, the "Bravo" company, as they are to be feted at halftime of the Dallas Cowboy Thanksgiving Day game. Ben Fountain has given us a bevy of interesting…

I fell in love with this crew of young army grunts. Uneducated and unsophisticated they are wise-cracking, street smart, and vulnerable.

A remarkable piece of satire that examines the many ways American soldiers are dehumanized, exploited, and treated as symbols rather than people by those who would profit off of their heroism. Ben Fountain's writing feels showy, but it's…

I enjoyed it although I wouldn't say its so much told "from a soliders' perspective" but it is more a satirical glimpse of a soldier. It was witty at times, interesting at times a sometimes boring but all in all a good read.

I really enjoyed this novel. It was a gripping read that is impressive for its stream of consciousness-style concept (the entire novel takes place essentially in 6 hours). Each of the soldier characters were easy to bond with, and it…

In this book, Fountain presents a critical (although not scathing) picture of Bush's America. During this "victory tour" of war heroes, a producer is trying to obtain a movie deal (ironically, a movie of the book is coming out in 2016). …

Fountain is effective in giving each member of Bravo a voice and perspective. The book did lose me a tad with the cheerleaders and Destiny's Child thrills. Worth the read to understand what veterans might be going through.

An excellent read. A very informative point of view on the Iraq War, from a soldier's perspective. All the characters are completely believable.

A soaring book that looks at heroism, war, love, celebrity, football and Hollywood. Enjoy the ride.

I greatly enjoyed this--I usually don't enjoy stream of consciousness writing but this was so vibrant and searing that I really got into it.

Open your mind and listen to war veterans. You are going to want to read this at least once.

I didn't think this book would hold my attention, being about soldiers watching football, but it wound up being so much more. The characterizations of all the Bravo company were witty and profane and real, and the insights that occur to…

Billy Lynn is a hero. As a part of Bravo Squad, he engaged in intense warfare with Iraqi insurgents. Footage of the skirmish has transformed the surviving men into heroes, and Bravo Squad is now on their “victory tour.” The majority of…

Darkly comedic referendum on war and the commercialization and commoditization of patriotism. Ben Fontain is a brilliant young writer with a gift for natural sounding and believable dialogue...very cinematic imagery, with a Joseph Heller…
