I believe the prose in this book is too flowery, It’s not a casual read and therefore requires complete attention, which is difficult because the book is so long. Not my favorite book of the year

Been seeing tons of low ratings on this book and felt the need to back it up. If you finished this book and all you took away from it was that it was a depressing hunk of pages with no plot, you would be unintelligent and dim-witted.…

OK lets be fair. This is a really lousy book. I liked her first book so I purchased this one to read on a cruise. I'd love to meet people who rated it higher than a two.

The prose is beautiful but overextended. It doesn't need a description of every single person in a restaurant, especially when the plot itself is so slow to start. If I want to find a better coming of age story, I would read a memoir.

Good old Donna Tartt. She doesn’t just tell stories, she makes worlds. To open the cover to one of her books is to willingly lose yourself in her dense and powerful prose. She draws you close, all the way in, and by the time you realize…

The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt was truly an amazing novel. The writing in this book is so alluring, capturing my attention making me not want to put it down. The story follows a boy named Theo Decker, as he narrates the book we get an…

The Goldfinch is the Pulitzer winning novel by Donna Tartt. The lengthy novel is an interesting combination of vivid- but rarely likable characters, and dramatic but dreary events, mixed in with rich descriptions of the world and vivid…

“Furniture, like all living things, acquired marks and scars over the course of time,” Theo reflects, which could be a metaphor for his own life. We start with a bright, artistic youth who doesn’t see how he fits into the world around him.…

It is not worth all the horrible hours of reading it. There is NO payoff at the end. Reader beware. It is one of the few books that I have read where I want to post a note in the first few pages to warn off others so they will not waste…

This 970 page brick is without doubt the most depressing thing I have ever read. Why so many people would want to subject themselves to this that it was a bestseller, even less, a Pulitzer, is beyond me. I’m curious if the people who…

I imagine Tartt would laugh out loud reading negative reviews from readers who apparently thought they were picking up a Care Bears book or The Bible. Swearing? Oh no! Drug use? Oh no! A teenage boy raised without supervision who to turns…

The author's word-craft kept me plugging through 700-plus pages of wretchedness and brokenness hoping for some kind of redemption. The pay-off wasn't there as the story concludes with a very shallow layer of redemption followed by…

This novel has an ambitious plotline. It's a coming of age story and a sort of modern take on Dickens' Great Expectations. It's a great story. However, though it is well-written generally, it is at times, a bit overwritten. Twice, I…

The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt tells the life story of Theodore Decker. The novel starts off with a tragic childhood event that ends up greatly impacting the rest of Theo’s life throughout the book. It is a story unlike any story I have ever…

Donna Tartt’s The Goldfinch will take you on an adventure of epic proportions. I first came across this book shortly after losing a close family member, so I cannot deny that this has had a huge impact on why I still feel so connected to…
