Makes you wonder - how did we survive the 1960s! Concert happened in 1967 with an allstar lineup including the Mama & the Papas, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, the Who and Otis Redding. Worth watching especially for Jimi Hendrix playing Wild Thing. Everyone is looking and feeling very groovy!

Great concert and what an amazing experience. Here we get to see the Who on their first trip to the US. They simply ignite the audience. Jimi Hendrix lights his guitar on fire and beats it on anything around him. "Monterey Pop" brings you back to the music and art of the 1960's. I would have loved to have been at Monterey for this historic concert. This is as close as one can get to the real thing!

Excellent collection.
Original movie is cleaned up and enhanced both visually and sound wise including 5.1 format. The two added disks are worth the price of admission.
Very interesting to hear Saturday's The Byrds version of Hey Joe, (bet you David Crosby/The Byrds never played it again.) J Hendrix played it Sunday; it was his 1st single released Oct 1966 albeit an European release. (Apparently Crosby knew about Jimi, didn't they know?)

"Monterey Pop" is not a Woodstock or any similar mob concert. It was held in the 60's at the Monterey California Fair Grounds. The "Hippie Movement" was at its peak, which is why you will see so many tie die T Shirts in the film. The film captures the beauty of the Monterey, California location as well the beauty of the colorful scene at the concert. John Phillips of the Mama's and the Papa's arranged the concert. He brought together acts like "The Who" which was making it first US tour. Jimi Hendrix smashing guitars on stage for the first time. The Mama's and The Papa's close the concert. Everyone sounds like their recorded work of the time. It is an great concert with a sorts of bonuses in the new edition that KCLS has in stock. It is a must for all rock and roll lovers. Don't miss the best party ever held for rockers!
