This is the first-ever biography of the legendary wrestler Gorgeous George, filled with incredible never-before-told stories. George directly influenced the likes of Muhammad Ali, who took his bragging and boasting from George; James Brown, who began to wear sequined capes onstage after seeing George on TV; John Waters, whose films featured the outrageous drag queen Divine as an homage to George; and too many wrestlers to count. Amid these pop culture discoveries are firsthand accounts of the pro wrestling game from the 1930s to the 1960s.--From publisher description.--From publisher description.

Toast from the coast, The Human Orchid, Sensation from the nation.
Biography of from a clean cut babyface morphed into an anti-hero wrestling pioneer who created sexually ambiguous , quasi-effeminate, vaguely gay persona who drive in Packard with Jefferies the valet that decontaminate the ring with "Chanel #10".
Wrestler helped sell television post WWII & increased sales for live wrestling attendance over casual fans from all walks of life on his wacky routine.
He paid a huge price from 24/7 larger than life high flying narcissistic lifestyle from the rough & tumble professional wrestling, "ring rats" aka groupies, gambling & alcohol abuse.
However, he influenced a lot of people that stole his gimmicks including James Brown, Bob Dylan & Muhammad Ali
