I enjoyed reading this Susan Hill novel. Her stories are really great but I wish she would clean up the bad language. Too many F. words.I am sure she could replace them with something else without taking away from the story line.
This book contained some excellent moments, really spooky and realistic. But what I mostly felt about it was confusion. It wasn't really a mystery since the crime was resolved by a quarter of a way through the book. Then it was a matter of examining the traumatic effect of it on various nearby characters. There were so many players, all inter-related in various ways. The chapters were short, and the narrator of each was different from the last, so it was easy to lose track of what was happening. The author brought great insight to the relationships between the characters, enough for me be curious about reading another in the series. Certainly the book was at times chilling, but I couldn't recommend it on its own. Finally, at the end there was no real resolution; all the characters just seemed to be ready to move on. It wasn't very satisfying.
