City of Bones is outstanding in almost all aspects. I know there is a lot of people who do not like Clary because she is selfish but put yourself in her shoes. She had to overcome the fear of losing her mom to save her. She had to become something else that she never even knew she had inside of her. She is trying to understand her self and her biological father she did not know was alive. I wish Cassandra Clare went more in to depth about her struggles with trying to fit in with the other Shadowhunters. On the other hand Jace is very arrogant when it comes to being a Shadowhunter which is kind of an attractive quality. He is described as a protector of Clary and of his own adoptive family. We see Jace being very skilled but we do not see a very emotional part of him. I wish we could see more of his thoughts around Clary. Although this book is written from Clary's point of view it would have been nice if there was a single chapter of more of the other important characters as well. Similar to the organization of the book Wonder. Although their lack of character development personally it was not disappointed when it came to their developing relationship. There conversations together were mostly interesting, funny and quite adorable. They are very opposite in quite almost everything which is why they are so good together. Besides them other characters like Isabelle, Simon, Magnus and Alec got a nice introduction and contribution to the plot. Which I know will vary through the other books. This is my opinion as I begin my journey though the series of The Mortal Instruments.

I have read this series so many times, and every time I read it, I feel so immersed into the main character and connected to her. Thank Cassandra Clare for writing such an amazing series for the Shadow World.

From the beginning this book is very gripping. It's a little confusing but stick with it b/c it all makes sense as it unfolds. I love the twists and turns and have been surprised many times! I really like her version of werewolves, warlocks and vampires. Super creative and vivid. The relationships between the characters are relatable and you can feel the connection. Pick up this book, you will not regret it.

I read this book several years ago and just recently listened to the audiobook. I wasn't sure if I'd enjoy an audiobook, but I needed one for a long drive. I immediately was pulled into this story through Mae Whitman's narration. Her voices for the different characters was absolutely perfect. I already care deeply for the characters and their fates in this storyline, and I am excited to listen to the rest of this series.

This book was an adventure from the start. I immersed myself in the world of Shadowhunters alongside Clary Fray (the main character). Cassandra Clare has the power to bring her creative world to life with just her words. From fear to love, this book brings it all. Cassandra Clare brings on a whole new world of possibilities in the form of this book. It’s a battle, of truth and lies, myth and reality, love and home. This book is just the beginning, to a whole new adventure that is waiting for your way. 4 Stars - @MissPeachPrincess of the Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board
I recently read the book: City of Bones, by Cassandra Clare. This book is really captivating from the start. Your dividing into such a uniquely different fantasy world, which the author does a great job of describing. The characters are strong yet displayed with many characteristics. Our main character Clary is what brought me to the book. She’s described as a strong character who’d do anything for the people she loves. Each character has a flaw that helps you see the raw emotions and consider them to be real people. When the author displays this sort of characteristic it immediately draws you to that specific character, which I really liked about the book. I like how different the book is compared to other fantasy novels. The author not only involves werewolves and vampires, but also demons and myths/legends. The book starts to get more and more intriguing as you read, and I can’t wait to read the second book. I’d recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy, and young adult books. I rate this book a 5/5. @peppapig of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

I would rate City of Bones by Cassandra Clare 5 stars! This book was amazing. I think it is safe to say this is my new favourite series! Cassandra Clare sweeps you up into the Shadowhunter world, and you definitely won’t want to put the book down, so make sure you set aside at least 2 hours every time you pick up the book. The book was amazingly written and I always found myself wanting to know more. I found that Clary’s character was very relatable and likeable. Jace shows us that everyone has a story, and sometimes its ok to not want to let go of a part of your childhood. I really enjoyed how this book covered all aspects of a typical fantasy world, vampires, demons, werewolf’s, faeries, and of course the hero that saves everyone in the end. I found that this book would appeal to fans of Harry Potter and Twilight. I am typically not a fantasy reader, but this book might make me become one! I never knew that an imaginary world could seem so realistic yet magical at the same time, it was amazing! I recommend this book for everyone and hope that everybody will have the joy of reading the mortal instruments series at least once in their life.

Bravo. I just loved it, it has so much suspense, and fantasy and it is so much fun to read, it fits my genre of books in every way possible, every page you turn there is something to catch your attention and you just can't stop, once you read the first book, it pulls you in and does not let you go, you just can't stop reading it.

When clary enters the pandemonium club she hardly expects to witness a murder, especially one that only she seems to be able to see. Beginning with that night Clary gets plunged in to a hidden world of shadow hunters and downworlders. This is one of my favourite books. I love the characters, particularly Clary and Jace. The way Cassie Clare writes is wonderful, it is beautifully descriptive and witty. I fell in love with Jace in this book, and he remains my favourite male character. I also love Clary, she is 'one of us'.

The back:
Their hidden world is about to be revealed...
When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder--much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Clary knows she should call the police, but it's hard to explain a murder when the body disappears into thin air and the murderers are invisible to everyone but Clary.
Equally startled by her ability to see them, the murderers explain themselves as Shadowhunters: a secret tribe of warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. Within twenty-four hours, Clary's mother disappears and Clary herself is almost killed by a grotesque demon.
But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know....

lms Mar 22, 2008

Through meeting Jace, Alec and Isabelle - teenaged defenders of demonic evil on earth - Clary becomes embroiled in a world class struggle of good and evil and realizes that she may have superhero traits of her own.
