Professional wrestler, Mildred Burke may have stood only 5' 2" tall and weighed only 138 lb. - But in the ring she was one mean machine of endless energy and amazing agility who was regularly taking on men wrestlers (and, yes, beating them).

This enjoyable biography looks at the complex life and turbulent times of Mildred Burke who held the title of "NWA World Women's Championship" for nearly twenty years (1935-1955).

Also included with this biography are a number of pages of b&w photographs taken from different times in Mildred's life. She died in 1989 at the age of 73.

Impressively written by Jeff Leen - "The Queen of the Ring" takes an in-depth look at the life and times of American, female wrestler, Mildred Burke.

Born (1915) in Coffeyville, Kansas - Mildred Burke (of a very petite stature) began wrestling professionally at the age of 20 and for 2 decades she reigned supreme as America's top female wrestler (who regularly fought (and legitimately beat) many male wrestlers).

This intriguing story about sex, muscles, diamonds, and the making of an American legend is certainly worth a read. This book also includes a 16-page photo gallery.

*Note* - In 1989 - Mildred Burke (73 at the time) died of a stroke.
