This very thick book provides the immigrant experience from the point of view of everyone from early settlers of the country such as John James Audubon to contemporary authors Julia Alvarez and Frank McCourt. I just did not have the time to devote to reading it cover to cover, but you could certainly pick and choose who interests you. A brief description of the author appears at the beginning of each piece and the book progresses in chronological fashion, allowing you to pick historic or more recent times.
