The first time I became somewhat familiar with the Astors was after watching the movie Titanic but I can honestly say that reading this biography gave me quite the insight into the life of Brooke Astor, the widow of Vincent Astor, grandson of John Jacob Astor. A well-known New York socialite and philanthropist, Mrs. Astor's 105 years unfold like the rich heroine of a Danielle Steel novel. Her son Tony Marshall is at the center of this family drama, accused of neglect and of stealing large sums of money and valuable possessions from his frail mother. This book is a quick read and a must for biography enthusiasts.
