Features the hilarious best-of highlights from 13 episodes of The Jerry Lewis Show. Lewis was surrounded by a who's who of Hollywood's comic royalty and is at his best in the side-splitting classic character portrayals that made him a legendary comedy chameleon, including Sidney Portnoy, a nebbish and his alter ego; Professor Frobisher; Oriental criminologist Inspector Sam Lichee; and others. Guests include: Flip Wilson, Don Rickles, Frank Gorshin, and more.

I found this pretty unwatchable -- except for seeing some luminaries backing Jerry up: Joey Heatherton, Shirley Jones, Laurence Harvey, Rickles, etc. Even these last, with the exception of the impressive Harvey, are just for old times' sake. Otherwise, these episodes from a TV song-and-dance show from the 70s that didn't last, confirm the view of many that Jerry Lewis was okay at 10 to 12 years old, but wore out his welcome as all of us in the 60s grew up. One of the wittiest moments in a book (available at the OPL) by Peter Bogdanovich about famous actors he'd known arose in defence of Lewis. He said that everyone but the French seemed to dismiss Jerry and his brand of humour, as if it all had been "...some kind of clerical error" Funny, I thought - and it's why I picked this up set of DVDs. Now I see how right we were, and how misguided his defence was: Chaplin, the Marx Brothers, Laurel and Hardy and several others aged well. Sadly, Jerry Lewis didn't.
