I listened to the first cd of this book on tape and the story moved from one character to a completely new character without ever coming back to a previous character. I stopped after the first cd because it was just too hard to get into the story with all of the plot lines. I like the concept of historical what if's, but this book just took too long to get me interested.

The middle book of a trilogy, it doesn't stand on its own. I like the idea of alternate history, in this case the Poles and Germans against the Russians among other sub-plots. The book takes the viewpoint of several low-ranking soldiers, which could be interesting, but I just found tedious. And I am not going to bother finishing the series.
