The author certainly achieves his objective of providing a deeper understanding and appreciation of German history in the last 250 years. Historical facts that have largely been overlooked or ignored.

However, the book also provides a fascinating insight into the recent history of Western civilization, by covering almost all aspects of human endeavor including arts, science, philosophy, politics, warfare, medicine, sociology, psychology, archaeology, etc.

Definitely worth a read.
