For years, 12-year-old CeeCee Honeycutt has been the caretaker of her psychotic mother, Camille-the tiara-toting, lipstick-smeared laughingstock of an entire town. But when Camille is hit by a truck and killed, CeeCee is left to fend for herself. To the rescue comes her previously unknown great-aunt from Savannah, Tootie Caldwell, who whirls CeeCee into her world of female friendship, strong women, wacky humor, and good old-fashioned heart.
"Steel Magnolias" meets "The Help" in this Southern debut novel sparkling with humor, heart, and feminine wisdom. Laugh-out-loud funny, Hoffman's charming work offers the story of a young girl who loses one mother and finds many others.

"It’s what we believe about ourselves that determines how others see us”. This may not a famous quote, but it’s one of many I’ve kept after reading this book. It’s an affectionate story about a young girl who lives with her great-aunt after her mother dies. Although it’s a simple and uncomplicated plot, it is one of my favorite books due to the thoughts and feelings that are written within the pages.

After the death of her larger-than-life mother, CeeCee is rescued by her great-aunt Tootie, and learns about other types of strong women.

A cute, feel good book set in the 60's. CeeCee loses her mother but gains a number of loving mother-figures. Enjoyed the whole cast of characters that come into CeeCee's life. Their little adventures and the southern atmosphere were totally entertaining. I wanted to move right in with Aunt Tootie and Oletta.

A really lovely beach read type of book that was great escape reading for me. Charming and heart warming.

One of my favorite novels set in the south. Enjoy with a big ole glass of your mama's sweet tea.

This is a beautiful coming-of-age story, set the in mid-1960s in Savannah. I'm quite partial to Savannah, and really savored the vivid descriptions of the beautiful architecture and gardens that populate its many squares. I also love most any novel set in the South. I don't know why it appeals to me so much, but I can't help but be drawn in to its sweltering locales populated with the most extravagant folks you'll ever meet. And "Saving CeeCee Honeycutt" is certainly populated by some interesting ladies! I certainly laughed a lot as CeeCee became acquainted with her neighbors.

One note on this book. Some have said it's almost a YA novel. And, I would agree with that, but there are some more "adult" scenes that pop up that keep it from being totally YA. I do think a high schooler would probably highly enjoy this novel (as would just about any adult needing an escape into a colorful and warm world).

This story of twelve-year-old CeeCee Honeycutt is really a children's book. I think it would be a hit with adolescent and early teen girls. We meet CeeCee the spring that her mother is hit by a car and killed. She has cared for her manic depressive mother since she was seven when her father abandoned them; her only friend an elderly lady living next door. Now she is alone, and who should show up but her Aunt Tootie like a knight to the rescue. From here on the story is one sweet thing after another. It got quite saccharin for me, but I know that others do enjoy a feel-good story and this is definitely one. CeeCee is saved by a very caring village of gushy southern exuberance. Her father even becomes a good guy.

A very sweet and warming book. My only problem was that everything worked out too perfectly to be believable.

Just loved this novel. Was sorry to see it come to an end. Some of the characters sort of reminded me of the characters in the movie "Steel Magnolia". Delightful read..
