Jason Aaron, the hot new writer of the critically acclaimed series THE OTHER SIDE, teams with gritty artist R.M. Gu#65533;ra for an intense crime drama that mixes organized crime with current Native American culture. This special low-priced volume collects the first five issues of the riveting Vertigo series SCALPED. Fifteen years ago, Dashiell "Dash" Bad Horse ran away from a life of abject poverty and utter hopelessness on the Prairie Rose Indian Reservation searching for something better. Now he's come back home armed with nothing but a set of nunchucs, a hell-bent-for-leather attitude and one dark secret, to find nothing much has changed on "The Rez" -- short of a glimmering new casino, and a once-proud people overcome by drugs and organized crime. Is he here to set things right or just get a piece of the action?

Kind of a slow start, but, it's Jason Aaron and I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I can definitely see the potential in this story and look forward to reading more. The art is very 90s style, which normally turns me off, but, Aaron is a master storyteller and can keep me coming back for more.

Great for fans of shows like True Detective or Breaking bad. This comic series is gritty and grim and I devoured the entire 10 volumes in two days. This writer also has a series called Southern Bastards, highly recommended as well.

Starts as the most cynical and violent type of noir, then adds depth with its focus on family ties and personal regrets. Meanwhile, the dark, Dickensian plot, fueled by revenge and betrayals, keeps ratcheting the tension upward. Unforgettable.

Compelling read, though I couldn't really relate.

This is a fantastic graphic novel series in Vertigo DC line. This is perhaps the best collection of writing and illustrations I have ever read. Definitely for mature audiences due to adult themes. The Dead Mothers storyline is phenomenal espcially leading to the last panel of this arc.

Uncompromising hard-boiled noir set on the rez. Violent & visceral. A great read.

Very dark and very violent, but with a surprisingly engrossing and intricate story that emerges over several volumes. Well worth sticking with, even if this first volume doesn't quite win you over.
