I really enjoyed this book. It was not one of the usual high adventure, full of sex, suspense and high climax. It was a very beautifully written semi documentary of those times. History woven into a story that was simply compelling to read because of Steinbeck's ability to bring alive a period in our history located in a specific time and place not often noted. This author had the ability to describe all aspects, history and location, and had the skill to move on before it became boring.

The book was okay – but not one of my favorites.
