On (not) Getting by in AmericaPaperback - 2011
From Library Staff
Ehrenreich was an undercover journalist trying to see if it was possible to get by on minimum wage and to determine the impact of the the 1996 Welfare Reform Act on the working poor. The book has been challenged for offensive language, political viewpoint, and religious viewpoint.
I think its fair to say that you don't know what you don't know. If you've never tried to live on minimum wage, its really hard to understand. Barbara Ehrenreich does a great job of helping you to understand. Unfortunately, I don't think things have gotten any better since she first wrote this one.
