Asher Machnik is a teenage boy cursed with a beautiful androgynous face. Guys punch him, girls slag him and by high school he's developed an intense fear of being touched. Art remains his only escape from an otherwise emotionally empty life. Eulalie Mason is the lonely, tough-talking dyke from school who befriends Ash. The only one to see and accept all of his sides as a loner, a fellow artist and a best friend, she's starting to wonder if ash is ever going to see all of her ... a + e 4EVER is a graphic novel set in that ambiguous crossroads where love and friendship, boy and girl, straight and gay meet. It goes where few books have ventured, into genderqueer life, where affections aren't black and white. .--publisher.

Okay I'm going to harsh with this book - I haven't finished it but just going to right this comment first. I was appalled to learn one of the main characters is described as a dyke on the back yet she's straight. Maybe later she realizes she's actually a dyke, you know, a lesbian~ but for now that instantly turned me off.
Another thing is how this book is suppose to be supportive and what not about the lgbt community yet there is casual cissexism everywhere. I'm transgender and a lesbian so I'm going to say this book isn't that good honestly with that stuff. So the way the author wrote this book to be in the 'now' and 'hip' among the younger kids just is so poorly done and hurts to read at times. Is it realistic and shows real problems? Yeah. Is it well done? Not really.

Beautiful, poignant and raw. Sucked me in, couldn't stop reading until I was done.

I was surprised by how affected I, older and straight, was by this story. It is good to remember that people are just people. Period. Be aware that while these two people's story is not designed to shock but to share the human experience, it does not shy away from relevant details of their lives.

Great modern story about two young people living outside the binary. Gorgeous artwork, lettering, and layout put it over the top.
