Zeb Wells starts out as the writer for this companion Spider-Man series, which at its start showcased the wall crawler and some of his fellow Avengers. Wells has a good handle on characters, particularly how they relate to each other. It's the art in this set that can be grating. The first three issues have art by Joe Madureira, an artist who for some inexplicable reason seems to have a fan base. His style is messy and inconsistent. The Hawkeye issue features work by Greg Land, who has a reputation in the industry for drawing as if his primary inspiration is imagery from adult entertainment.
