This book was really good. It had a little mystery, and adventure and I loved it!!

Children who enjoy history and conundrums will appreciate this first volume of the Shakespeare Mysteries. Similar in style to National Treasure or The 39 Clues, this book would make a great read aloud.

Colophon Letterford is twelve years old and she loves to solve puzzles. Her family’s publishing business is in jeopardy and Colophon follows the clues found in an old family portrait in quest of a literary treasure. Strange events and bizarre accidents have been threatening not just the success, but the very survival of the four-hundred year old firm. She races against time to solve the mystery before her father’s business is forever lost to a distant cousin. Secret passageways, scary mausoleums, quirky characters and brilliant pen and ink illustrations all add up to a mystery described as “One of the best middle-grade novels I’ve ever read”. This is the first book in the Letterford Mysteries series and Book 2 “The Tower of the Five Orders” is due to be published in the fall of 2013. Reviewed by SK
