The best of the Season Ones that I've read so far (including Daredevil and Spider Man).

Another in the Season One series, this one departs from what has preceeded it by moving beyond merely modernizing the origin story to telling more. Howard Chaykin writes this, as opposed to the art (his artistic style doesn't personally agree with me, as I've always found it rather boxy in how he depicts people). The art itself is a painted style, which from time to time makes it difficult to tell what's going on. Ultimately, however, the story didn't work for me. There's a character thrown into the mix for the extra part of the story that doesn't have a history in the Marvel Universe (at least that I know of), a former friend of Tony who becomes a villain. And there are retcons I didn't care for- shifting geography of the place where Tony is first taken hostage from one part of Asia to another, the subtle changes in names of certain characters, the dynamics in the SHIELD organization, and even a brief side mention of Bruce Banner at a time when the character's connection to the Hulk was unknown. Taken together, the retcons and the unheard of character sank the story for me, personally.
