In the story "The Black Pearl" by Scott O'Dell it brings us to La Paz a city, that contains a boy named Ramon, his father (a rich pearl collector and vendor), a worker of his, a large crowd, the tales of the Manta Diablo ( the devil fish) and the Pearl of Heaven. Ramon father was a wealthly pearl collector and vendor as said before and wanted his son to follow in this footsteps. However his father was ashamed of him and Ramon was aware of this. In order to gain his father respect he thought he would have to find the Pearl of Heaven that was believe to belong to the Manta Diablo. When his father and his crew left to find pearls he went to a friend of his (who own a lagoon which contain black pearl, a rare color) and asked him to teach him how to dive to search for pearls. He was actually trying to learn for two reason. One reason was to find the Pearl of Heaven and the other was to impress the biggest liar in the city: he is known as the Sevillano. He was one of the thirty-two workers in the crew. This worker, unlike all the others, annoyed Ramon and made him more determined to impress him. After a few days, he went to to the cave of the Manta Diablo where the pearl was suppose to be hidden. This journey had taken place with no permission or super-vision, however he manage to get a large oyster from a cluster of large oyster. He went to the own. He open the oyster and there laid the Pearl of Heaven. The owner demand Ramon to put this magnifient pearl back because the dangerous Manta Diablo will chase after him until he will get that pearl. This was unfortunately true.
The news of the Pearl of Heaven spread like wildfire. Crowds even develop throughout the town.
When his father return and went past the crowd Ramon presented the Pearl. This indeed impressed him, however it took some time. This was because of a single flaw.
The the pearl was up for selling for a large amount of money. This however, was a hard thing to do considering all the facts of the big pearl it doesn't last long it dull and other considerations. Because the vendor would give the asking price, this father gave it the church. After this event his father again went out to sea. Then tradgey struck, a storm took the live of all whole crew except for one, the Sevillano.
When the Sevillo return with the news there was a mass. After the mass, he took the pearl thinking of its dark action. He race back to the lagoon there he meant the Sevillo. He threaten him to get into the boat. This then lead into a large adventure. The manta diablo kept following them for days and days. The Sevillo finally attempted to kill the Manta Diablo however, loss his life in this event. This was Ramon chance to escape to his home and this is what he did.
