Set in Jerusalem during the time of the Crusades. Christians, Arabs, and Jews have long lived together harmoniously. They are now being warned of an imminent attack and certain destruction; contemplating their demise, the community assembles to seek the counsel of a Greek Copt. The novel unfolds as a sequence of parables on love, faith, friendship, loyalty, and more.

Add a CommentI liked it only for the reading by Jeremy Irons - great way to fall asleep. No, I don't relate to the content.
This is not a novel. It is an excessively preachy and very long sermon. And not even a good sermon. Sermons are supposed to use a story to teach you something. But this has NO story. This "book" is just a series of platitudes and rants, and the set-up of being Jerusalem the night before its fall is utterly superfluous.
