Quick easy read! Barnard does not come off as preachy just as informed. Came away from the book with a few ideas to try!

Dr. Barnard is a lively, intelligent American who seeks to prevent disease and distress via diet (and lifestyle). SAMC (Standard American Medical Care) now ranks as the number one cause of death in America (followed by cancer and heart disease). Neal started the group in DC "physicians for responsible medicine" and connects with the public on his website or via email. Can we prevent (and hopefully cure) our prevalent US diseases (artery, heart, diabetes, cancer, and mental dementia) with sound diets? Hopefully, yes, with whole foods, and a plant based, low fat diet -- just the reverse of what many Americans consume as daily "staples." He's practical and accepts it takes a while to adapt the SAD (standard American diet) over to eating mostly plants (legumes and nuts along with other veggie foods), creating energy internally and balancing our systems back to a more youthful style health -- free of many symptoms often accepted as "par for the course" with aging especially. For people on meds, or with food allergies or other medical conditions, he always advises they work with a PCP or Internist, or specialist. He does advocate a B12 supplement or a multivitamen with B12 and D3 or D2 daily. His latest book is a healthy approach to hopefully avoiding cognitive impairment with aging. Many MD's today follow the natural and plant based diet, making healthy meal choices themselves, but Neal is really putting the research and his own ideas out to the general public in easy to understand language.
