Jason Sinai is a former Weather Underground activist living in Albany, New York as an attorney under the name Jim Grant. He has been on the run from the law for decades after being accused of killing a security guard while committing a Michigan bank robbery with other activists in the 70s. When one of the activists has been arrested, Ben Schulberg, an investigative journalist investigates the story and eventually finds the connection between the arrested activist and Jim Grant. When his identity is revealed, Jason Sinai abandons his 7-year old daughter and goes on the run from the FBI in hopes of finding his ex-girlfriend, a fellow activist who can help him clear his name. Meanwhile, as Schulberg investigates the case further, he meets the FBI agent who first investigated the robbery and his daughter, and stumbles upon a connection that can exonerate Jason Sinai.
