I am an avid Eve & Roarke fan, but I do agree that this was not Robb's best book.
As for the comment made here that it felt like she hired someone else to write the book:
of course she uses ghostwriters! It is not physically possible for her to have written all the Nora Roberts and J.D. Robb books herself.

This "in Death" book, I didn't finish because it was too brutal. First the main charcter kills off his parents, then he threatens to attack a helpless dog with pliers! I got as far as chapter 11 and stopped reading. I thought this mystery would be exciting but it wasn't.

Just too formulaic, maybe this group should fold up their tent and say goodbye.

Is anyone but me put off by the books being set "in the future" I know the old ones aren't,,, but it sort of confuses me when something is said that reminds me that now they are "in the future" can't remember which year...

I was a little disappointed in this one too.

Standard Eve Dallas fare. Nothing outstanding about this latest case.

I agree with Mic2511; it's like someone else was hired to write this book. It lumbered on and there was little to sustain interest.

Gruesome senseless murders just before Thanksgiving holiday ... a case that frustrates Lt. Eve Dallas ... plus family reunion, public recognition, possible captaincy, survivors from her previous cases, all drove Eve into uncomfortable and unfamiliar territory. A great read, as usual!

I eagerly await each new book in the "in death" series but this one was a total disappointment. I wonder if JD Robb is now using a ghost writer... the plot was boring and the by-play between characters was almost nonexistent. All the old characters were in the book but there was no reason for them to be there. I really don't believe JD Robb wrote this book. If she is going to use a ghost writer, I hope she gets better one next time.
