Joey W. Hill's Vampire Queen novels 'keep the pages turning, your imagination running and your dreams carnally vivid.' * In her newest installment, a servant sentenced to death is sent into hiding and finds a passion she never expected in her new protector . . . Groomed from birth to be an Inherited Servant and serve only the most powerful vampire Masters, Alanna never resented her destiny. Then she did the unthinkable- she betrayed her Master to The Vampire Council. Now death is her future, but until her Master is captured, she must be protected. The Vampire Council assigns her to Evan, a vampire whose wandering lifestyle makes him the perfect guardian . . . Alanna's training was for a vampire of power and ambition, not for someone like Evan who lives in mountainside shacks and caves. Even his servant, Niall, is rough mannered. But these two men are about to teach Alanna something her rigorous training never did- how to feel, how to desire . . . perhaps even how to love. Then the Council captures her Master, and Alanna has no choice but to accept her destiny. But Evan and Niall are no strangers to defying fate - and they will stop at nothing to make Alanna theirs forever . . . Praise for the Vampire Queen Novels 'Not for the faint of heart . . . complex, gritty and completely unforgettable.' TwoLips Reviews 'Sexually charged . . . intense.' Just Erotic Romance Reviews 'Keeps you riveted to your seat and leaves you longing for more.' Night Owl Reviews

I prefer novels featuring m/m sex to remain just that. I’m not aroused by having a woman thrown into the mix. But occasionally it helps to step outside of your comfort zone and see whether a gifted writer can make you a believer, at least for a while.

Alanna is a submissive, born and bred. She was chosen before she was born to be a vampire’s servant. She’s been trained from birth and she was the best of the best. Ms. Hill has to work to pull a reader past the initial distaste over what is basically a kind of slavery and she makes a strong case for this in her book.

Before she betrayed her first vampire master, Alanna was considered perfect in her submission. She learns to anticipate her master’s needs and has honed a preternatural ability to read others. I admired her for her complete stillness, lack of wasted motion, beauty and grace. I envied her for her lack of envy, ego, jealousy and uncertainty. She has been trained to lack real wants and to submit to whatever her Master wants. So she has no rabid desire for possessions and no wish for frivolities. She is skilled in a variety of household techniques and feels no real distaste for anything that may be asked of her in sex.

The book is about how her new owner, the lesser vampire Evan, and his cocky servant Niall gradually show her there’s more to what she is, more that she can offer a vampire truly worthy of such a gifted servant as she. The book gets really harrowing at times as we are immersed in Alanna’s inner struggles to hold on to who she is while being coaxed into being a fully rounded person.

Her submissiveness never leaves her but that’s not the purpose of the story. We see how she’s made an integral part of Evan and Niall’s world, how they find themselves surprised and moved by this extraordinary servant who was only meant to be a temporary part of their lives. This reader was treated to their thoughts and feelings, compellingly written, as both changed in their outlooks about Alanna.

Of course, there’s sex in many varied ways, positions and situations. Wow. This is truly molten, eye-popping stuff, erotica at its hottest without shame and with few boundaries. Bondage, submission, punishment and bloodplay all twine into these sexual sessions. Even with threeways, this was heady stuff.

I’m still not going to be an aficionado of m/m/f stories. But I may have just found a new favorite author in Ms. Hill.
