In late 1944, America's naval forces face what seems an insurmountable threat from Japan: immense Yamato-class battleships, which dwarf every other ship at sea. Such a ship would threaten U.S. Pacific forces, allow Japan to launch air attacks against the U.S. mainland, and change the course of the war. Lieutenant Commander Gar Hammond is now captain of a new submarine. He may be the navy's only hope to locate and stop the Japanese super-ship before it launches-if it even exists.

I've now read 4 of P. T. Deutermann's Pacific WWII books. All were very good.

Great read. Much better than the Clive Cussler submarine story I read previous to this. Again though maps would have help to follow the locations better. Minimum profanity which is a plus for me.

A person writing a WWII novel about the submarine war in the Pacific and POW camps in Japan isn't likely to write a better one than this. The 21st Century action packed escape-artist twists and turns would never have been attempted by anyone who actually experienced any of the events described in the book.
Evidently researching the novel did provide a perspective for the author concerning a realistic view of Japanese, the Japanese Empire, and the savagery of behavior enjoyed by the entire Japanese population where POWs were vulnerable to them.
