"Nevada is the darkly comedic story of Maria Griffiths a young trans woman living in New York City and trying to stay true to her punk values while working retail. When she finds out her girlfriend has lied to her, the world she thought she'd carefully built for herself begins to unravel, and Maria sets out on a journey that will most certainly change her forever."--P. Incredibly insightful slice-of-life story about a beautifully flawed trans woman that but MUCH less of a "journey" book than the description makes it sound. I was expecting a road trip novel and got more of a simple snapshot of this woman's life.

I've been involved with the lgbtq+ community online, and much of what Maria says rings true. Imogen Binnie says many things at once about "the community". Her style is no frills and very honest. However, the synopsis of this book is deceiving. The story doesn't spend much time on Maria's actual road trip, only the reasoning behind it and a stop she makes in Star City, Nevada when she finds a questioning 20 year old who reminds her of her pre-transition self. The book ends rather anticlimactically, but that's how life goes.
