The Neverending Story is Michael Endes best-known book, but Momo, published six years earlier, is the all-ages fantasy novel that first won him wide acclaim. After the sweet-talking gray men come to town, life becomes terminally efficient. Can Momo, a young orphan girl blessed with the gift of listening, vanquish the ashen-faced time thieves before joy vanishes forever? With gorgeous new drawings by Marcel Dzama and a new translation from the German by Lucas Zwirner, this all-new 40th anniversary edition celebrates the book's first U.S. publication in over 25 years.

A good book for the world-weary, Michael Ende’s Momo, recently reissued by McSweeney’s, straddles the line between adventure and philosophy. One can draw a direct line from Momo’s depiction of a time-obsessed society falling apart to our current 24/7 culture. Originally published in French, the book has been out of print in the US for many years. Fans of Ende’s more well-known novel, The Neverending Story will find much to like here, although one need not have read it to grasp Ende’s enduring message.

Having enjoyed the movie "The Neverending Story", I was curious to read another work by the author. With deceptive simplicity, Michael Ende weaves a complex story that remains accessible to all readers. I love the view that the magic of children can right many wrongs. Recommended to readers of fantasy and social commentary.

My favorite book! It has fantasy but also leaves you with a lot to think about :) Lovely and cute, the kind of story you don't want to stop reading and is kind of sad when it ends.

I love this book and how it shows how important time is to us and joy is to us. Momo is such a lovable character, and the details are very rich and vivid.

An AMAZING book that will suck you in to the plot and story. It has a sweet ending that leaves you wanting more and more. I recommend it to everyone who liked the Never Ending Story or Seraphina. Read it even if you haven't read those books.
