Bravo....well done...loved this movie....a well done adaptation of the 1989 movie. Queen Latifah, once again out did herself, especially in the scene near the end where she breaks down and is angry and crying at the same time. Will watch this again.

had no intention of watching this at all since I absolutely love the original but when I noticed it was on TV one night I couldn't help but watch. Being that I'm so familiar with the original, it was hard not to watch this without imaging the original cast. The storyline was similar and some of the lines were verbatim word for word but despite the acting talents of Queen Latifah, Alfre Woodard and Felicia Rashad, the acting just didn't do it for me. It didn't have the heart and soul of the original at all and I'm saying that based only on the acting, not the film. However, the most poignant scene in the original, where Sally Field breaks down in a cemetery was again done word for word but instead of a cemetery it was done in Truvy's beauty shop, which completely ruined the scene for me. Taking it out of the original setting changed the entire concept. I wasn't impressed with the girl who played Shelby either and thought her acting was really lacking. Few people can hold a candle to Julia Roberts of course, but they should have picked someone who could play the role of Shelby with a lot more emotion. The only thing this movie did for me was make me want to watch the original again and again.

It was cheap acting and had zero ability to be any where near entertaining in the least. This was a pathetic attempt to copy the original. For people that never saw the original, don't bother with this remake, you'll get the wrong impression about the original cast, acting ability, and storyline. The original comedy drama has Julia Roberts, Sally Field, Dolly Parton, etc. and was nominated for eight Academy awards. Stick to the original film.

I didn't see the original film that this is a remake of,but this remake is so annoying it kind of makes me wonder how the original film actually is.This is a miserable failure as a comedy because i didn't laugh one time at none of it's attempts to be funny. It is definitely better on the drama tip,but this is still an instantly forgettable film despite the fact that is it well made with good performances overall. It's a DAMN shame that Phylicia Rashad is just another BEAUTIFUL black actress that also bleached her skin as well, and i am sick and tired of seeing these extremely BEAUTIFUL black actresses do this in real life by the way period. It's also unfortunate how the movie does not explain the very relevant death of one of the other extremely BEAUTIFUL black actresses character in this film,BUT I DIGRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Average black drama. Remake of a movie I had no desire to watch when everyone raved about it. Boring and overwrought with drama. Well acted, but I didn't care enough about the characters or the story to recommend watching it.
