Cassie Dewell is in a bad situation. After following her boss' orders, her partner has been fired from the Lewis and Clark Sheriff's Department in Montana. When she follows Cody to a bar to explain her side of the story, she finds him going on a bender after a long period of being on the wagon. After escorting him home, Cassie finds an angry wife and an upset son whose "girlfriend" is on the way to their house for Thanksgiving. When the girlfriend and her sister fall off their GPS tracking software, Cody goes looking for them. After he falls off Cassie's radar, she gets involved and set in motion a train of horrible events that involve serial killers who are a long-haul trucker, bar owner, and Montana state trooper. Box does an admirable job of building and keeping suspense as his story alternates between the captured girls, the killers, and Cassie's investigation.
