In this first book in the series of Mac the apple, Mac is a good apple. He plays nicely and is helpful to others. He loves life. After he sits out in the rain one day, he notices something different. Will the worm has moved in to Mac's head. They become great friends. Unfortunately, the other apples call Mac a bad apple because of the worm and make fun of him. Will leaves hoping Mac will not be so sad. But Mac is more sad that he has lost a friend. He searches high and low until he finds Will again and life is good and happy.

The illustrations are oils on canvas. They are vibrant, colorful and a pleasure to look at.

The story is a wonderful tale of true friendship. In both Bad Apple books, Mac is a wonderful example of an apple with a positive attitude. He knows what is most important in life. Unfortunately, I could not get past the fact that the worm, Will is attached inside Mac's head. This is a bit creepy to me, but many young children will probably love it.

This book is advertized for ages 3-5, but I think first and second graders will enjoy the story as well especially since the illustrations are so wonderful.
