it was slow and not as good as the book!

Like an episode of Dr. Who, but with a slightly bigger budget. Not my cup of tea.

I was a little hesitant about this series mainly because of the time frame in which it was filmed, the length of the episodes and so on, I did want to have to stomach another awful rendition of a story I admire. I greatly enjoyed reading the book and I really hoped the director and actors would do the story justice. I casually passed this series sitting on the shelves several times but always a force pulled me back. I must have read the back of the DVD box at least 10 times before actually borrowing this item.

I will say this, Neil Gaiman's description and imagery was very detailed and specific, almost steam-punk in a sense, the characters portrayed here were somewhat the same. A little more towards the Victorian era subtly mixed with subway wandering homelessness. I saw this as very appropriate seeing how the BBC are always slapping huge ruffled collars and shirt cuffs into nearly everything they produce, yes even the more modern things.

I was pleasantly surprised and very mush pleased with the out come. The graphics are of course rather cheesy, but given the time with which this was produced I'd comfortably say it was entertaining to watch. The story did not drag, nor was it confusing like so many other unfortunate book to screen stories. Clear, concise, and on par, I was happily satisfied that I decided to wait so long to watch. It was truly a wonderful way to spend a Saturday morning!
