Levon Helm, who died in 2012, was the drummer, singer and sole American in the seminal band, um, The Band. Internal dissensions (some about songwriting credits) tore the group apart, which culminated in their filmed farewell concert, "The Last Waltz." This documentary gives a little bit of history of The Band, but mostly focuses on Helm's later days: his life with his family in upstate New York, his continued music making and his cancer. It's a little unfocused, but it's candid and moving and Helm emerges as a tough, but lovable rock and roll survivor.
