To a growing number of Mexicans and Latinos in the Americas, narco-traffickers have become icons, glorified by musicians who praise their fame and success. In this new constituency, they represent a pathway out of the ghetto, nurturing a new American dream fueled by money, drugs, and violence. The film is an explosive look at the drug cartels' pop culture influence on both sides of the border as seen through the eyes of an LA narcocorrido singer and a Juarez crime scene investigator.

A sobering film. Yes, 500 miles of wall has been built on the US/MEX border by Clinton/Bush/Obama but you can see why Trump wants to keep going. I did an over night trip to Tijuana while on vacation in Los Angeles (Jan 2017) - 900 murders (2016) in Tijuana and zero tourists when I was there. The Zona Norte was hopping - there's a film for another day. This doc is America's present, and Canada's future. This story covers so many issues. The key word I got from this film? Awareness.

Excellent portrayal of drug cartels in Mexico, especially in Juarez.
