I liked the storyline for this book and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. My only wish is about the fey creatures themselves. Yes, they act like fey creatures and have a little background about them but if you took out the fact that they are fey and renamed the countries something else, I think the story wouldn't fall apart. To me, this means that it's irrelevant that they are fey. I hope in the following books that there is more about them.

Jane Yolen is a very prolific children's author. When a Prince meets an apprentice Midwife, they dislike each other upon sight. Working together, they travel back to his homeland where they disccover war is imminent. The Prince is an unlikeable character, while the Midwife, Snail, outsmarts him at every turn. A quirky little fantasy novel and the first of a series.
