Loved it and the Belmont series. Each book stands on it's own, but does reference the previous characters. This is my second time reading and I literally couldn't put it down. I particularly enjoyed this story as the main character, Eleanor, finds her joy in cooking and serving food to widows and orphans who have been beaten down by the end of the civil war. Eleanor not only has to fight the cultural prejudice at the time to perform such a charity, but actually fight within her family to be "allowed" to lower herself to serve others. A good reminder of how far society has come.

Tamera Alexander's love for writing is apparent through her very detailed writing style. Her characters are well developed and have great depth, her plot is enjoyable yet not always predictable, and her message is inspiring. This novel's Post Civil War setting will delight the reader.

Loved it, every minute of it..all 400+ pages of it! only a few authors can give you a story that has convincing depth, emotion, and meaning all wrapped up in a happy-ending romance. Tamera Alexander usually does. I was charmed by Marcus (the oh-so-handsome and gallant hero) and impressed and inspired by the Heroine Eleanor, who was described in the book nearly akin to a wall flower. At many points during the book i stopped to stare at the cover, the girl on the cover is anything but a wallflower! Overall enjoyable read.

This is the 2nd book in Tamera Alexander's Bellmont Mansion series. I love the era during which the story takes place, and the Christian references throughout the book. Very interesting and captivating story!
