The scale is 1-5. One being low and five being high.
Cliché: I don’t need to really explain this one…was it a typical story that followed very similar storylines that many authors over use?---->1 out of 5, it never is!
Humor Me: How funny was the story? The dialog between the characters?---->3 out of 5, this story is not all about humor, but the main characters do have plenty of sarcasm, wit, and attitude that gives this story laughs every chapter.
Sizzle & Burn: How romantic was the story? And it is also the scale of how steamy things get between the characters that fall in love.---->3 out of 5, I say this because it isn't all about the relationship rooting between Mercy and Adam. But they are super cute and romantic when they have their moments between the blood baths and bad guys.
Called It!: This one is about the mystery behind the crime, situation, or hardship that is going on in the story. Did the author surprise me or did I know who the bad guy/antagonist was all along? ---->1 out of 5, I did not feel, or ever feel, like I have a grasp on what is about to happen with the bad situation that arises. Which is the primary reason why I continue to read her books because she writes in a style that leads readers on a grand adventure that isn't always known ahead of time.
Exciting Extras: Did I fall in love with the background characters? How badly did I want to learn or hear more about the story of the main characters friend(s) or family member(s)? ---->4 out of 5, I always want to read more and go on a separate reading trail of her minor characters that she marvelously plots into her stories. Warren is just one of them while Ben is the other.
What! It’s Over!: This one is rating how badly I want to read the next book in the series.---->5 out of 5, I have been reading this series without long breaks. I been have the next book in the series in my possession. I love this author and I really advised delving into the world that Briggs has wonderfully created for her audience.
This is the fourth book in the mercy Thompson series- a shapeshifter with some other talents, she is a car mechanic in the real world and tries to maintain harmony between the real world and the non humans ie. werewolves, vampires, fae, ghosts. I picked it up to satisfy the fantasy category of the 2017 read harder challenge. Have read the first four in the series and it is important to read them in order. She is really badassed and enjoyable to read an feminist protagonist.
Would make a great movie or hour show.Good solid caractors.
This series—and this entry in particular—is very similar in tone to the early Laurel Hamilton books. I am so glad I pushed on past the ambivalence that the first book left me with. Wonderfully written, Mercy and her crew have come into their own and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Exciting read, interesting heroine.
Looking forward to next book in series.
As soon as I started reading this I COULDN'T STOP! I enjoyed every...single...page.
I never got a chance to be bored there was just too much going on all the time. Even the trip to Amber's was obviously going somewhere.... Some of us thought this was going to be another book battling it out with vampires but it was so much more.
Lots of ghosts development so we learn more about her abilities with ghosts. Her induction into the pack. I look forward to getting more on the ramifications of this and this new mating bond.
This book gave us lots of meaningful, touching moments between Mercy and Adam. Glad Mercy has come to grips with her choice and fears about being with Adam. There's resolution, friendship, and intimacy. Briggs dealt with this in a delicate and appropriate manner considering the big issue from book #3. I again wish Briggs didn't choose or prefer to leave the intimacy up to our imagination which is only okay for me when strong likeable characters, great plot(s) and solid entertainment value are present. This book has loads of all that IMHO. However I think more adult readers would rate the book higher if she had given us even a little more hands-on action with her man!
Now I need to go rest my really sore, bloodshot eyes....until the next.
Great addition to this enjoyable series.
The fourth title of the MERCY THOMPSON series. You can't go wrong with Patricia Briggs. She's a great story teller and a master plot builder, and she has created an unforgettable set of characters. If you like the MERCY THOMPSON series, be sure to read the ALPHA AND OMEGA series, which tells the story of the “country” side of this werewolf pack. Here are the MERCY THOMPSON titles in reading order: Moon Called (2006); Blood Bound (Ace, 2007); Iron Kissed (2008); Bone Crossed (2009); Silver Borne ( 2010); River Marked (Ace, 2011); “The Star of David” in Wolfsbane & Mistletoe anthology (2010) "Red with Pearl" in Down These Strange Streets anthology (10-2011) Mercy Thompson: Homecoming (graphic novel, 2009)
