The somethingosaur is a cute character and the illustrations are great, but I wish dinosaurs and dragons wouldn't have been combined into one story. It was a bit weird to ask kids what dinosaur they thought the character was, just to have it not be a dinosaur at all.

Little Something is all lost and alone, follow his journey as he finds his way home. Something's epic quest takes him through many lands which the artist renders with various textures and colours. Between this atmospheric approach, and the writing, even though his facial design limits his expressions, there are no problems understanding what he is thinking and feeling.

For the most part, the rhyme is of high quality and amusing, even though a few of the choices are barely similar in sound. Sound too is given a special role, with fun words like crickle, and roar appearing in larger sizes to mimic the volume. It is a shame it is not used more consistently.

Throughout there is the question of what type of dinosaur Something is, and the end provides a clever and unexpected answer. The story itself is straightforward enough, and in reality not much actually happens. Most of the book shows a series of clips of his journey, but it does very well to draw you in nevertheless. For older readers, little details like the lost egg sign, shadowy suspense, or a goat being "rumbled" off the mountain (he has a band-aid a few pages later too) add extra depth to this funny, yet serious tale of a child looking for his mother.
