Shapiro takes us into the reclusive backwoods world of beekeeper Shavitz, still committed to living off the land in Maine, as he has since the 1970s, in a renovated turkey coop with no running water. Shapiro explores Shavitz's peculiar relationship with the company he co-founded with Roxanne Quimby. The birth of Burt's Bees and its emergence as a lucrative brand may be the stuff of legend, but it's also contentious: Shavitz sold his shares decades ago, reaping virtually nothing from the company.

Wow! Interesting documentary about Burt, the face, the man, the co-founder behind Burt's Bees. I enjoyed getting to know Burt and his love for nature, his dog, and his simple life.
This film is not about the company but about the man.

This is an interesting and entertaining documentary about Burt Shavitz, the now deceased co-founder of Burt's Bees.

I enjoyed learning more about the man behind Burt's Bees. He had an interesting early life as a photographer and then escaped the big city life to upstate New York and finally, Maine. He says he did what he wanted (and I believe him). I was sorry to learn that Burt's Bees is now owned by Clorox. I was left with the feeling that Burt has no regrets and, at age 78, he has lived the life he wanted. Good for him.

Not into the product line thankfully. Wasn't aware that Clorox now owns the company. Burt is very likeable and accommodating even though he doesn't like other people much. Anyone who is torn about whether or not Burt would've been better off with more money, missed the entire point of the film. He clearly never cared about it at all and this is stated outright by both Burt and his friends. He cared about Roxanne who only cared about making money and that appears to be his only regret. This was a quick moving fun film that really held my attention. I love Cindy Lin and the admiration she holds for Burt. She makes me want to hug Taiwan.

A well-told story that leaves the viewer to answer whether or not Burt would have been better off had he not been deprived of the empire that wears his name (and his face). Either way, you'll probably fall in love with this character, who seems to have found the simplicity that lives on the other side of complexity. (to misquote Oliver Wendell Holmes)

"A good day is when no one shows up and you don’t have to go anywhere." - Burt Shavitz
