I forgot how terrible this series was, until I started watching it again and was reminded.

If you've read Jack Campbell's work about a fleet of warships trapped behind enemy lines, then you'll know what I mean.

The premise is sound, but the execution was badly done.

A near-perfect season of television.

Now THIS is a sci-fi series worth watching. Even if you're not a sci-fi fan, chances are you'll be drawn as its a standout success in a number of different categories. I just completed season one of this critically-acclaimed series, and I hope seasons 2 to 4 maintain the same high standards.

A fantastic remake of the cheesy 70s series, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA was revamped with intriguing characters that you relate to ... not the usual cast of wackos from a futuristic galaxy far far away. Like a space soap opera, it's exciting sci-fi for the guys and meaningful character relationships for the gals. Meanwhile, the entire Galactica society is facing the threat of Cylon infiltration. Who are Cylons, you ask? They're people who look just like humans, but want to destroy the few remaining humans in the universe. When no one can really trust another for fear of a Cylon among them, people are pushed to the brink in the already stressful environment of life aboard the Galactica. The characters are well crafted and realistic, and my favourite is the complicated military miss, Starbuck. I highly recommend this series to most audiences, from preteens to senior citizens.

Rewatching this over the last week I rediscovered how much I LOVED this show. Although I still think I like Firefly better overall, this is likely my second favorite science fiction series of all time. There really isn't a weak point of this season. Great setting, story, acting and effects. The dramatic acting and suspense of these stories should seriously appeal to anyone. I plan to rewatch the entire series. If for some reason you are a sci fi fan and have passed this up, this is a must watch.

There's a lot of good in the series - the robotic Cylons are definitely cool and a lot of fine performances are turned in - but plot wise the ending of this series was an absolute and utter disappointment. They wound up the series and all it's plot points like a junior high student winds up a creative writing assignment at 4am the day it has to be handed in. The tacked on, uncreative resolutions to what had been truly intriguing premises made me regret my entire investment in following the series, and that was a shame. The potential for greatness had definitely been there.

This series was recommended to me, however I found it lacking in many ways. While the plot is relatively interesting the speed at which it develops is deadly slow. In fact it is so slow I could only force myself to watch the first three hours - by which time the fleet had just barely gotten underway in their search for the fabled Earth.

The original series was I feel infinitely better, as the plot developed faster (it had to it was written for prime time TV), and the characters were more interesting.
