One of the few TV series worth watching. Fast moving, thought-provoking, and characters you come to care about.

Can't stop watching! "The Newsroom" provides me with drama, wit, and humor. I love how the series points out the many flaws of the media today. JLMason's comment about the female roles is understandable (I'm not a fan of portraying all the females as whiny and annoying either), but I can't help but love the character of Mackenzie for her idealism. I understand that this was written not only to inform, but to entertain as well. Due to that I'll take the "drama" with a grain of salt and give a 5 star rating for entertaining me, while educating me about how the news is "made." ;)

As HBO TV series go this was not bad on content (TV-14) is appropriate. Providing a unique view of the media newsroom and off camera drama, even if that drama is mildly distracting to the main theme. It has a purpose that feeds into and off the news events that happen in real time. Yes this show has an element of historical value, in that of real world news, but allowing the viewer to see into the realm of news media. There is the contentious topic, "what is the news, and how should it be covered", clearly demonstrating what investigative news journalism should be and how it can be manipulated and more importantly manipulating the viewer. Worth watching all three seasons!

Perfect example of HBO teaching Republicans their flaws. McAvoy is a drunk that likes to get high and runs his program like a Nazi but is emotionally lost. Oddly enough he reads more like Obama. In the opening scene he goes off as why America is no longer great. In the end, the way the US will turn around isn't farmers, teachers, doctors, nurses, cops, single moms or the middle class but blonde sorority girls from Northwestern or other prestigious schools. The hope that they could report for the NYT or MSNBC/NBC. Sorry Oregon grads

Well Tapia, who do conservatives support for President, Oregon Governor and US Senate?

What shows and movies do recommend?

If there were space for a 6th star, I'd choose that. Already a huge 'West Wing' fan, I feel like this is better. The characters are saying things I wish real people were saying about politics and/in the media. I can see why there's still a huge waitlist.

This series greatly improves after the first 2 episodes. The actors in these first episodes deliver their lines at such breakneck speed that they are hard to understand and it's impossible to appreciate the wit. I had to resort to subtitles to keep up. I suppose the director thought that this simulated the frenetic quality of a newsroom, but I found it merely annoying. I almost abandoned watching the show and am glad I didn't. Although it isn't mentioned in the credits, I'd be willing to bet that The Newsroom is loosely based on the British series The Hour which, in my opinion, was much better. I could have done without the romantic storyline additions/intrusions which added nothing to the plot except to possibly make it more palatable to those allergic to the Machiavellian twists and turns of American politics. Too bad the Congressional shutdown occurred too late to be included in this season. The Newsroom is better than most TV series, but not nearly as good as Sorkin's West Wing was which remains one of my all-time favorite TV shows. This show just proves that corporations don't control ALL of television!
